Sculpt

·   Create and construct an abstract or representational sculptural form.  ·  Gather & plan at least 3 different ideas in your online research notebook.  Post & print any resource images that may help you complete your idea.
·   This piece should be non-functional & decorative.
·   Use sculptural construction methods: an armature skeleton to build hollow or build solid and hollow out.

·   Apply pinch, coil, & slab handbuilding techniques from previous works.  Consider all clay construction options & select the best methods for your idea.
Cross-section of armature.
1 = board.
2 & 3 = support wooden post.
4 = newspaper & tape form
Outer edge = clay

Newspaper Armature: used to temporarily support clay and construct larger hollow forms.
Removed once clay is stiff leatherhard.

Representational
Abstract
abstract art art that does not attempt to represent external, recognizable reality but seeks to achieve its effect using shapes, forms, colors, and textures.

representational art art that seeks to depict the physical appearance of reality; also called objective art and figurative art.

Hand built Construction(Built sculpture hollow with an armature or hollowed out, even thickness of walls, attachments made with score, slip, and seal method, casts have vent openings, seams are clean & tight, no broken areas or repairs necessary).

Negative Space
(Form is enclosed with openings of negative space for venting & to draw eye inside and through, uses either openings or implied openings).

Form & Size
(Interesting from all sides, creates visual flow/guides eye around vessel, used principles of repetition, movement, unity, tension, or balance, choice of size appropriate/enhances work).

Glazing
(Choice of glaze enhances vessel, appropriate color choices, created interesting surface).

Craftsmanship
(Piece is well done, shows care, & attention.  Work is signed on bottom w/ initials or signature).

Unique Solution to Problem(Solves problem and has elements that make it original).
